A flare system operates by directly combusting methane gas in an open atmosphere, converting it into carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water vapor. Although CO₂ is also classified as a greenhouse gas, its global warming potential is significantly lower than that of methane. Therefore, methane combustion is an effective method for reducing the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change.
